Work over the Christmas holidays

Over the Christmas holidays I am going to have to sit down and look at what filming I have done and what I still need to do. My main focus needs to be on lip syncing. I also need to ask Hannah if she can give me any time to film and plan out when we are going to make progress by.

First draft of my music video - incomplete

This is the first bit of editing I have done on my music video. I haven't done much due to lack of lip syncing, that is the main thing that is missing which is a huge problem.

My progress

Due to me been off college last week it was important for me to catch up on the work I had missed. To do this I decided to stay in college after my lessons had finished for the whole afternoon yesterday (Wednesday 28th November) and in that time I managed to edit all of the footage I have filmed up to now. This means I can now catch up with some blog work.

Lip syncing

Even though I started filming weeks ago I still haven't managed to get any lip syncing done as Hannah hasn't learnt the words yet. This is panicking me because I really need to get some of that done. The main issue is that she is getting too many hours at work in the lead up to Christmas and also has a lot of college work and other commitments which leaves no time for her to help me. I need something to happen soon otherwise I will be struggling to meet deadlines and I will start getting stressed.

Illness stopping work

Due to illness I haven't been at college for the last few days (since Monday 19th November) and I won't be returning until Monday 26th November. This means I haven't been able to start the bulk of my editing as I haven't had access to the editing suites which is slowing my progress down. I have also had to cancel a filming day (Thursday 22nd November) where I was due to film scenes in the college recording studio. This filming day now has to be rearranged which will slow my progress down and I will now have to use extra free periods when my editing suite is available to edit.

Filming day 5 - The costume

This is the outfit that Hannah wore for the spinning scene.

I wanted her to wear a dress that was flowing so as she span the dress span with her. I thought that would look good in the shot. My original vision for this shot was a sunny day and her wearing a lovely summer dress but as we shot this in the middle of November it didn't work like that. I had to improvise with the jacket because it was ice cold and she couldn't film without the jacket on. It was also very muddy as it had been raining and we had a twenty minute walk to the location so she wore walking boots with socks. In the end I warmed to this choice of costume as she was still wearing part of the costume I wanted her to.

This is Hannah on location practicing the spinning shot. The purpose of practicing this shot is because we were filming on a slight hill and Hannah found it difficult to stay upright and in the same position. she often found herself falling down the hill or laughing as we were filming. Eventually we managed to get a shot that was long enough to use in my video.

Filming day 4 in the countryside - location and shooting

Videoing the reflection of the colourful trees in the stream. I used the fence to lean on so there was less movement on the camera

Standing at the top of the hill an hour and a half after taking the original images as the sun had started to go down to see what the light would be like at a similar time to when we were able to film the actual shot. Although the colours in the trees are still lovely, down in the valley where the shot would be filmed was a lot darker with a few shadows on the camera.

A third location on the walk that we found. The land was a lot flatter and the trees in the background look great with the different colours. It is also easier to get to and because it is at the top of the valley it stays lighter up there for longer which has to be one of my main considerations when choosing where to film this shot.

Cake sale poster

This is the poster I created to use in a scene where Hannah is baking a cake for a charity cake sale. I made the poster on Microsoft Word and I then transferred it to Microsoft PowerPoint so I could save the image as a JPEG file and upload it onto my blog.

When I printed the poster off I decided it would look more realistic and better if I printed it onto coloured paper. I printed it onto yellow and pink paper and afterwards decided you could see the texts and images better on the pink paper and therefore opted to use the pink poster in the shot.
